Our Story

Steve Moran and Kieren Myler met at Project Solar UK in 2019, then the largest domestic solar installer in Britain. Kieren brought a different background to the table — years living and working off-grid, designing standalone solar, battery and generator systems where every kilowatt-hour had to be earned, sized correctly and stored efficiently. That off-grid discipline — treating energy as a finite, costed resource rather than an unlimited tap — became the engineering spine of KMM.

By 2022, both had concluded the same thing: the UK's biggest installers were optimised for sales velocity, not for engineering quality. They were happy to quote 18-year paybacks dressed up as 11-year paybacks, sell oversized batteries to homes that needed half the capacity, and leave customers waiting six weeks for a phone call from a project manager they had never met.

So they left.

KMM Energy Solutions was incorporated in 2023 (Companies House #14611429) — backed by 30+ years combined founder industry experience in Newark-on-Trent. Companies House #14611429. The founding premise was simple: do the engineering properly, quote what actually pays back, and assign one named project manager per customer — a consultancy, not a sales-led installer.

Three years later, the way KMM works is exactly as Steve and Kieren originally specified — and the operation has grown from two founders to 34 specialist staff across the core team and installer network. Read the full founder story →
