Solar Panels for Hotels
Hotel solar with 24-hour load matching, battery support for evening peak, and EV charging for guests. Designed around the hospitality demand curve, not a generic spreadsheet.

Quick Answer
- Typical size: 50–250 kWp on hotel roofs + carpark canopies
- Typical project value: £36k–£170k installed (ex-VAT, before grants)
- Year 1 saving: 20–38% off baseline electricity bill
- Payback: 4.8–6.8 years on capex; with battery + EV chargepoints 3.8–5.2 years
- ESG: Direct Scope-2 reduction for SECR, B Corp, SBTi reporting
- Lead time: 12–18 weeks; off-season install windows preferred
Hotels have an unusual electrical load profile — heavy daytime housekeeping load, evening dining-and-kitchen peak, overnight HVAC baseload — and the solar economics work best when batteries are designed in from day one. KMM has installed hotel solar across the UK and the Welsh borders, ranging from 35-room boutique hotels to 240-room conference venues.
Where the economics actually work
Battery is non-optional
On a hotel, more than half of the daily electrical demand sits outside the solar generation window. Batteries time-shift that, and routinely lift self-consumption from 40% to 80%+.
EV charging
Modern hotel guests increasingly check for EV charging when booking. We install OZEV-grant-eligible workplace chargers as part of most hotel solar projects.
Catering load smoothing
Commercial kitchens spike at lunch and dinner. A 60kWh battery on a 120-room hotel will absorb most of the lunch peak even on a cloudy day.
Insurance considerations
Hospitality insurers occasionally push back on lithium battery installations. We use only LFP chemistry from EN-IEC-certified manufacturers and provide the full technical pack to your insurer.

Doctors' Surgery Solar Rescue: 100kW + Battery Backup
A Market Deeping doctors' surgery had been let down by a previous solar installer — non-stop issues, no monitoring, zero confidence. KMM installed 100kW solar, 100kW battery, Tigo optimisers on every panel.
UK Farm Solar Case Study: 3-Year Payback
UK farm sized its solar at 50,000 kWh against 37,000 kWh usage to future-proof. KMM modelled a 3-year 3-month payback and roughly £500k of 30-year savings.
UK Farm Solar: Cutting Energy Costs on a Dryer
UK farm with grid-only power and a summer grain dryer turned to solar to harness rising energy costs, drive its dryer, and earn export income.
