Commercial Solar Monitoring: What KMM Customers Get
Every KMM commercial install includes manufacturer monitoring plus optional BMS integration. Here is what monitoring delivers, what alarms it raises, and how it connects to your ESG reporting.
What's included as standard
Every KMM commercial install ships with manufacturer-provided cloud monitoring at panel-string level. The portal is accessible via web browser and mobile app, with live generation, daily/monthly/annual totals, alarm response and historical trending. For Sungrow installs this is iSolarCloud; for SolaX it is SolaXCloud; for Solis it is Solis Cloud. All three platforms provide:
- Live generation updated every 5 minutes
- Per-string current and voltage — isolate underperforming strings instantly
- Inverter alarm history with cause codes
- Energy yield trending daily, monthly, annual
- Performance ratio (PR) against modelled output — fast indicator of dust or component degradation
- Self-consumption ratio (with optional CT clamp on the consumer unit incomer)
- Carbon offset accumulator — tCO2e displaced to date, useful for ESG reporting
- API access for integration into BI tools or BMS
What KMM monitors on your behalf
Service-plan customers get KMM operations team eyes on the data:
- Daily underperformance alarms — if any string is 15%+ below modelled output for the conditions, we investigate
- Weekly performance review — automated PR check against weather-corrected baseline
- Monthly written report — generation, kWh consumed, kWh exported, alarm log, recommendations
- Quarterly ESG report — formatted for SECR / GRESB / ESRS E1 / CDP inclusion
Optional BMS integration
For larger sites we can integrate the inverter data into your Building Management System over RS485 modbus or BACnet. Useful for:
- Production scheduling — defer discretionary loads to high-solar windows
- HVAC pre-cooling — let solar pre-cool the building in summer rather than running grid air-con later
- Battery dispatch decisions — integrate solar forecasting into smart battery scheduling
- Real-time dashboards — display in reception, meeting rooms, on factory floors
BMS integration cost: £1,800-£4,500 depending on system size and BMS complexity. Typically pays back in 6-12 months through 3-7% additional self-consumption.
Tenant-facing dashboards
For multi-tenant commercial buildings, we install a tenant-accessible web dashboard showing the shared solar system's generation, total kWh consumed by all tenants, and a per-tenant attribution based on metered consumption or floor-area allocation. Used as part of the service-charge transparency package.
Alarm response
Common alarms and KMM's response:
- String underperformance — desktop investigation first (shading, weather, time-of-day); site visit within 5 working days if cause isn't clear
- Inverter fault — firmware update attempted remotely; engineer visit within 5 working days for hardware
- Communications dropout — usually router or SIM-card issue at the site; we coordinate remote fix or visit
- Earth fault — site visit within 24 hours for safety
- Battery alarm — manufacturer warranty claim coordinated by KMM if applicable
