Solar Panel Bird Proofing Cost UK 2026
Pigeons love the underside of solar panels. Bird proofing prevents nesting, droppings, panel damage and inverter problems — typical cost £8-£14 per linear metre fitted.
Why bird proofing matters
A typical pigeon's-nest under a 4kWp solar array generates around 6-8 kg of droppings per year, blocks ventilation under the panels (reducing their efficiency by 4-8% as they overheat), and frequently chews through the cabling. The wider environmental damage to roof tiles, gutters and ceilings underneath can add up to thousands of pounds over a few years.

What KMM uses
We use 50mm-aperture galvanised mesh fixed to the panel-rail underside with stainless steel clips. The mesh is invisible from ground level and adds no significant aerodynamic load to the roof. Installation is done from a scaffold tower (terrace) or cherry picker (semi or detached).
When to fit it
Best fitted at install time — adds £260-£680 to a typical install and is much cheaper than retrofit because the scaffolding is already in place. Retrofit is straightforward but requires a new scaffold day.
