Workplace EV Charging Grants in 2026: Complete Guide

OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The Workplace Charging Scheme covers up to 75% of the cost of workplace chargepoints, capped at £500 per socket for installs completed from 1 April 2026 and a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant across all sites — £20,000 in total. The scheme is due to close on 31 March 2027. The grant is paid as a contribution off the gross install cost; you pay the installer the net amount after grant.

Eligibility: any business, charity or public sector body with dedicated off-street parking for staff or fleet vehicles — customer and visitor parking does not qualify. The chargers must be OZEV-approved (most are; we install only OZEV-approved units), and the install must be by an OZEV-approved installer (KMM is). Applications are made through the OZEV portal before installation.

EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleet (closed)

The EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets, which helped with groundworks and new electrical infrastructure, closed on 31 March 2026. If your site needs a new DNO connection or a distribution board upgrade for chargers, budget for it in the project cost and check the Workplace Charging Scheme and the 100% first-year allowance on new chargepoint equipment.

Plug-in Truck Grant

Ongoing for heavy electric goods vehicles — separate from the workplace charging grants but worth knowing for any business operating EV HGVs.

Salary sacrifice schemes

For employee-owned EVs, salary sacrifice schemes (like Tusker, OctoVehicle, Onto) effectively reduce the all-in cost of an EV by 25-40% for the employee, with no direct cost to the employer beyond the administrative scheme setup. Workplace charging makes salary sacrifice schemes far more attractive — without on-site charging the convenience case for EV ownership weakens.

Revenue from public charging

If your workplace EV chargers are also accessible to the public (typical for retail, hospitality, public sector), you can charge non-staff users via apps like Bonnet or Char.gy at rates of 35-55p/kWh. A well-positioned 22kW public charger can generate £2,000-£4,500/year of pure margin income.
