Octopus Energy Solar Tariffs in 2026: Which Pays Best?
Octopus Outgoing Lite, Outgoing Fixed, Intelligent Octopus, Cosy — which Octopus tariff actually pays the most for a typical UK solar household in 2026?

The Octopus solar lineup in 2026
Octopus Energy has six tariff combinations relevant to solar PV households in 2026. The right one depends on your battery capacity, your EV charging pattern and whether you can shift discretionary load to overnight cheap windows. Here is the line-up and what each one suits.
Outgoing Lite (4.1p export, no import tie-in)
Open to any supplier customer. Lowest headline rate but no constraint on import contract. Suits households who do not want to switch their import supplier.
Outgoing Fixed (15p export, requires Octopus import)
Highest export rate. Requires Octopus on the import side, with their standard variable tariff. Suits households with moderate export volumes and no need for time-of-use import.
Intelligent Octopus Go (7.5p overnight import + 15p export)
For EV households. Charge the car at 7.5p overnight, sell solar back at 15p. Combined effect on a typical EV household: £400-£700/year more saved versus the lite tariff combo.
Cosy Octopus (3-period tariff for heat pumps)
For heat-pump households. Cheap windows 04:00-07:00 and 13:00-16:00 (perfect for solar self-charging) plus a peak window 16:00-19:00.
Tesla Energy Plan (special for Tesla Powerwall owners)
Octopus pays Powerwall owners a flat 8p/kWh import all-day in exchange for access to grid-balancing services. Net benefit depends on your usage pattern.
Which tariff pays most
For a typical 4-bed family home with 4kWp solar plus 9.5kWh battery and an EV doing 8,000 miles/year: Intelligent Octopus Go wins on a five-year comparison by approximately £1,800 versus the next-best tariff (Outgoing Fixed). For a non-EV household: Outgoing Fixed wins. For a heat-pump household without EV: Cosy Octopus wins.
