100 Panels, 64 kWh of Storage, Installed in Under a Week

The customer wanted serious on-site generation and storage on the roof of a barn — and they wanted the disruption window closed fast. KMM Energy Solutions specified a Solax-based system at scale (100 panels, a 30 kW inverter, 64 kWh of batteries), sequenced the install to compress the roof and electrical phases, and handed over a working system in less than a week. In the customer's own words, the result has been "working so well from day one."

The brief: scale, storage and speed

This was not a token rooftop array. The brief called for 100 panels on the barn roof, paired with enough battery storage to time-shift a large chunk of daily generation, and an inverter sized to handle the full array under peak conditions. For a working site, the install window is as important as the kit list — extended scaffolding, mid-roof exposure and live electrical work all carry cost and risk. KMM's job was to deliver the whole specification without dragging that window out.

Our approach on jobs of this size is consultancy-led from day one: we size the array to actual roof geometry, match inverter and battery capacity to expected generation and load patterns, and plan the install sequence so the roof, DC and AC phases overlap cleanly rather than stack end-to-end.

What KMM specified and installed

The system as built:

  • 100 solar panels mounted to the barn roof
  • 30 kW Solax inverter sized to the array
  • 64 kWh of Solax battery storage for self-consumption and load shifting

Choosing a single-manufacturer Solax stack across the inverter and batteries keeps the system communicating cleanly — one app, one warranty pathway, one set of firmware updates. That matters more on larger systems where the cost of a misbehaving component is measured in lost generation, not just inconvenience.

Install sequenced in under a week

The headline from the customer is the speed: the full install was completed in less than a week. For a 100-panel array with batteries and a 30 kW inverter, that is a tight programme. It is achievable when scaffolding, roof teams, DC pull and AC commissioning are scheduled to overlap rather than queue — and when the design pack arrives on site complete, so the electrical team is not waiting on decisions during commissioning day.

The customer described the project as "a slick operation." From a delivery standpoint, that is exactly what we are aiming for on systems at this scale: minimum days with scaffold up, minimum days with the building exposed, and the system energised at the earliest safe point.

Outcome: working from day one

On commissioning, the array, inverter and 64 kWh battery bank came online together and have run cleanly since. The customer's verdict:

"Very pleased with the Solax system. Uh, they have been so good. It's been such a slick operation. The install was less than a week. We've got 100 panels on the roof of the barn, 64 kW batteries and a 30 kW inverter. And it's just been working so well from day one."

For a domestic-scale barn install with this much generation and storage, the return logic is straightforward: the more on-site load you cover from your own roof and your own battery, the less you import at peak tariff. Pairing 100 panels with 64 kWh of storage means a much larger share of daily generation gets used on site rather than exported at low rates — which is where the ROI on a system this size is made.

Thinking about a system at this scale?

If you have the roof area for a 100-panel-class array — barn, outbuilding, large domestic roof, or a mix — the decisions that matter most are inverter sizing, battery capacity matched to actual usage, and an install programme that does not drag on for weeks. That is the conversation worth having before any kit is quoted.
